Dorel Juvenile Group Inc., of Columbus, IN, together with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced Dec. 30 a recall of approximately 213,000 portable play yards, due to a potential health hazard to infants. No injuries or deaths have been reported.
The products are sold under the names Safety 1st Disney Care Center™ Play Yard and Eddie Bauer Complete Care Play Yard, and were sold at retailers such as Babies “R” Us, Kmart, Sears, Target and Walmart from January 2007 through October 2009 for between $100 and $130.
This is the second major recall from Dorel in two weeks. Its infant child restraint/carrier was voluntarily recalled due to a loose handle.
Dorel reported that the one piece metal bars supporting the floorboard of the bassinet attachment can come out of the fabric sleeves and create an uneven sleeping surface, posing a risk of suffocation or positional asphyxiation. Consumers should stop using the bassinet attachment and contact Dorel Juvenile Group for a free repair kit.
