Ford Motor Company announced that it is recalling certain model year 2010 vehicles to fix front seat manual recliners for power and manual seats. No incidents or injuries have been reported.
Fusion image courtesy of FordThe recall affects approximately 33,256 units of the 2010 Ford Fusion, Ford Explorer, Ford Explorer Sport Trac, Mercury Milan and Mercury Mountaineer vehicles manufactured between Dec. 15, 2009 and Feb. 3, 2010. Ford believes some seats may have mechanisims that do not comply with its requirements. In the event of a crash, the seatback and head restraint may move rearward, posing the risk of an injury, Ford acknowledged to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Seats for the vehicles listed above were made by Lear Corporation of Southfield, MI. The vehicles in question were assembled at Hermosillo, Mexico and Louisville, KY. Ford believes the cause may originate with a supplier to Lear.
Customers who are affected will receive letters beginning Apr. 30, 2010. Dealers will repair the seat mechanisms for free.
