A multi-country recall of certain children’s and infant’s products — including Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec, and Benadryl — has been announced by McNeil Consumer Healthcare and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. No incidents or illnesses have been reported.
The products include specific sizes and packages of:
- Concentrated Tylenol Infants’ Drops (Grape, Cherry flavors)
- Children’s Tylenol Suspension (Cherry, Grape, Bubblegum, Very Berry Strawberry flavors)
- Children’s Tylenol Plus Suspension cold and cough products (Cherry, Grape, Bubblegum flavors)
- Concentrated Motrin Infants’ Drops (Berry flavor)
- Children’s Motrin Suspension (Berry, Tropical Punch, Grape, Bubblegum flavors)
- Children’s Zyrtec liquids (Bubblegum, Grape flavors)
- Children’s Benadryl Allergy liquids (Bubblegum flavor)

Stating in a press release that “some of these products may not meet quality standards,” McNeil is recalling lots of not yet expired over the counter medicines produced in the U.S. and distributed in the U.S., Canada, Dominican Republic, Dubai (UAE), Fiji, Guam, Guatemala, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, and Kuwait. McNeil is re-assessing its manufacturing operations and has “identified corrective actions” it will take at its plant.
The FDA and McNeil recommend that, as a “precaution,” parents and caregivers stop using these products, and contact their doctor with any questions.

While being vague as to which ingredients the company is concerned about, McNeil has asserted that three things might be involved: there may be a higher concentration of an active ingredient than is stated on the package; an inactive ingredient may not meet internal testing standards; and tiny particles of an unspecified ingredient may be present.
