Custom window treatment retailer Smith+Noble is recalling about 1.3 million Roman shades and roller shades as part of an industry-wide effort to prevent accidents and strangulations. The company received one report of a 5-year-old boy in Tacoma, WA who became entangled in a bead cord for a roller shade, but no medical treatment was required.
The recall affects approximately 1,160,000 Roman shades and 115,000 roller shades that Smith+Noble has sold online and through its catalog since 1998. Retail prices have ranged from $100 to $1600 per shade depending on the size, style, and other options.
The various brand names the shades were sold under include Smith+Noble, Christopher Lowell by Smith+Noble, Jessitt Gold, Shop Blinds, and Window Elements.
