Yamaha Recalls Fat Handlebars for Warrior, Road Star Motorcycles

Article Published in Autos on April 13, 2010

“Fat” handlebars used on certain Yamaha Road Star and Warrior motorcycles are being recalled because the tubing is thinner than designed and can lead to breakage, posing a risk of injury or death if the operator would lose control while the motorcycle is being ridden. No accidents or injuries have been reported.

Cypress-CA based Yamaha Motor Corporation has announced the recall, which affects the Double “T” Fat Handlebars made for 2002-2009 XV1700PC Warrior motorcycles, and 1999-2003 XV1600 Road Star and 2004-2010 XV1700 Road Star motorcycles. Yamaha estimates that 300 motorcycles are impacted by the recall.

The handlebars were produced between August 1, 2005 and July 31, 2009.

Yamaha determined that the handlebars’ tubing is thinner where the bars narrow for the switch housings and grips, and therefore could be too weak.

The company will notify owners of record, and dealers will replace the handlebars at no charge. Owners may contact Yamaha at 1-800-962-7926 to locate an authorized dealer.
