Winnebago Industries is recalling 99 motor homes to fix a defect relating to the slideout room. No incidents have been reported.
The recall affects model year 2011 Winnebago Vista E35F and model year 2011 Itasca Sunstar E35F. Of the 99 vehicles affected, 57 have already been shipped and will require a repair; 42 vehicles were repaired prior to shipment.
A dealer for the Forest City, IA-based manufacturer discovered that a cable that powers the slideout room could make contact with the driveshaft when the slideout is retracted. Winnebago determined that if such contact occurs, the cable’s protective jacket and insulation could wear off, exposing the conductors to the driveshaft and energizing the chassis, posing a risk of injury or death.
Owners will be notified around October 1, 2010 and instructed to take their vehicles to authorized dealers, who will install a driveshaft closeout panel between the chassis frame rails to protect and support the wire harness. Repairs will be made at no charge.
Owners may contact Winnebago at 1-800-537-1885.
