Airstream is recalling certain 34-foot classic trailers which contain plug-in remote control receivers made by Dimplex because the receivers can overheat, posing a fire hazard. No incidents have been reported.
The recall includes 16 vehicles from model years 2001 through 2004 and built between August 1, 2000 and July 31, 2004.
Dimplex North America Ltd., of Cambridge, Ontario, first announced the recall of 700,000 receivers in April 2010. The electric stoves, fireplaces, and fireplace inserts involved in the recall included brand names Dimplex, Electraflame, Symphony, Optiflame, Electralog, and Charmglow.
Dimplex will notify owners of the affected Airstream trailers of the recall, and will coordinate the distribution of free replacement plug-in remote control receivers.
Airstream owners who have the Dimplex-made products should unplug the receiver from the electrical outlet and unplug the fireplace from the receiver. Airstream owners may contact Dimplex at 1-888-346-7539 or Airstream at 1-937-596-6111.
Airstream is owned by Thor Industries of Jackson Center, OH. Thor also owns other RV brands such as Four Winds, Damon, Dutchmen, and Keystone.
