One lot of TYLENOL 8 hour caplets is being recalled by McNeil Consumer Healthcare (a Johnson & Johnson company) after the company has received a small number of complaints about a musty odor. A small number of adverse events have been reported, but none have been serious.
This appears to be the same issue that plagued McNeil earlier this year, when it announced three recalls involving a variety of products. An uncharacteristic odor was traced to TBA (2,4,6-tribromoanisole), a chemical used to treat the wooden pallets on which the products where stored and delivered.
The recalled TYLENOL bottles contain 50-count caplets. The lot number is BCM155, and the UPC code is 30045-0297518.
Consumers who have the recalled product should stop using it, and contact McNeil Consumer Healthcare at 1-888-222-6036 to receive instructions on obtaining a refund or product coupon.
McNeil previously announced recalls related to TBA on July 8, 2010 involving three varieties of TYLENOL, as well as certain BENADRYL and MOTRIN products; June 15, 2010 involving certain TYLENOL and BENADRYL products; and April 30, 2010, involving children’s and infant’s medicines.
