Angel Line is recalling about 3,400 drop-side cribs because the drop-side hardware could malfunction or detach, posing a risk of injury, entrapment, or suffocation. One incident involving a detachment was reported to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, but no injuries occurred.
The recall affects seven Longwood Forest models sold in four colors, all with plastic drop-side hardware: 6103S, 6105S, 6106S, 6108S, 6109S, 8025P, and 8029P. The names “Longwood Forest” or “Angel Line” are printed on a label located on the crib’s headboard. Angel Line, of Pennsville, NJ, says its fixed-side cribs and drop-side cribs with metal hardware are not affected by the recall.
The cribs were sold online at various retailers between December 2004 and January 2009 for about $140.
Consumers should stop using the cribs and visit Angel Line online to order a free kit that will immobilize the drop-side crib, or call 1-800-889-8158.
Drop-side rails can fail for a number of reasons, including improper assembly and wear and tear. When a drop-side rail detaches, a space is created between the drop side and the mattress which could lead to an infant being suffocated, strangled or falling out of the crib.
