Ethan Allen is recalling 3,250 drop-side cribs because the drop-side hardware could malfunction or detach, posing a risk of injury, entrapment, or suffocation. The Danbury, CT -based retailer received reports involving five children, three of whom experienced bumps and bruises.

The recall affects eight models in a variety of colors: 14-5650, 15-5650, 16-5650, 26-5650, 35-5622, 36-5620, 36-5622 and 38-5622. The cribs were sold in Ethan Allen stores between January 2002 and December 2008 for $550 – $900, and feature the Ethan Allen name and model number on a label located on the headboard or footboard.

Consumers should stop using the cribs and contact any Ethan Allen store to obtain a free repair kit, which will immobilize the drop-side rail. Consumers may also contact Ethan Allen at 1-888-339-9398.

Drop-side rails can fail for a number of reasons, including improper assembly and wear and tear. When a drop-side rail detaches, a space is created between the drop side and the mattress which could lead to an infant being suffocated, strangled or falling out of the crib.
