American Suzuki Motor Corp. is recalling more than 69,000 SX4 hatchback and sedan models to better secure the driver’s side rear view mirror. The automaker received two reports that the outside mirror was separating from its base; no accidents have been reported.

The recall affects all SX4 vehicles for model years 2008 and 2009, as well as model year 2010 vehicles manufactured between July 10, 2009 and September 22, 2009. Just one vehicle from model year 2007 was included in the recall.

Suzuki says that three screws used to secure the mirror to its base can become loose due to vibration. The company determined that its supplier, Tokai Rika Ltd. of Japan, had eliminated use of an adhesive (thread lock) on the screws to secure the mirror to the base.

Suzuki will notify owners on November 10, and its dealers will replace the screws on both outside mirrors at no charge. Owners may contact Suzuki at 1-877-697-8985.
