Honda snowblowers recalled for fuel leak, fire risk

American Honda is recalling 18,500 snowblowers because the fuel tank can seep fuel over time, posing a fire hazard. No fires have been reported.

The Torrance, CA-based company says it has received 90 reports of fuel seeping or dripping from the fuel tank joint and O-ring located on the underside of the fuel tank.

The recall affects three models — HS724, HS928, and HS1132 — sold at Honda Power Equipment dealers nationwide from April 2005 through November 2010 for $2,000-$3,400. The serial numbers of the affected snowblowers were announced by Honda and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Consumers should contact a Honda Power Equipment dealer to have the fuel tank joint and O-ring replaced free of charge, or call 1-888-888-3139. The company said it has contacted registered owners about the recall.
