Ducati is recalling nearly 4,000 Multistrada (MTS) motorcycles because fuel can leak at the fuel tank pump flange seal, posing a fire hazard. No injuries or accidents have been reported.
The announcement marks the second recall in two weeks for the MTS model. The Multistrada 1200 was recalled for engine stalls.
The recall affects the following models and model years:
- 2006 Multistrada 620 and 620 Dark
- 2003 – 2006 Multistrada 1000
- 2005-2006 Multistrada 1000S
- 2007 Multistrada 1100
- 2007 – 2009 Multistrada 1100S
Ducati says that, due to field reports it received, the company determined that the motorcycles needed an updated fuel pump O-ring (flange seal). In a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ducati added that fuel odor or liquid could be visible below the fuel pump flange.
Ducati North America, based in Cupertino, California, says it will notify all registered owners dealers will install a new fuel O-ring with an X-shaped ring, designed to provide a better seal, at no charge. Customers may contact Ducati at 1-800-231-6696.
