Toyota announced Wednesday it is recalling nearly 245,000 Lexus IS and GS vehicles to fix a potential fuel leak in the fuel pressure sensor, which could pose a fire hazard. No accidents or injuries have been reported.
The recall affects the following vehicles:
- 2006 – 2007 GS300 and GS350
- 2006 – early 2009 IS250
- 2006 – early 2008 IS350
Toyota began its investigation in March 2009 after one of its U.S. dealers detected a fuel odor in the engine area and spotted a small amount of fuel leakage at the fuel pressure sensor and damage to the gasket between the fuel sensor and the fuel delivery pipe.
The automaker continued its internal investigation in 2010, examining fuel pressure sensors and Nickel Phosphorous plated delivery pipes as well as how the pressure sensor was tightened on the assembly line.
According to a press release on Toyota’s web site, Lexus dealers will inspect the recalled vehicles for fuel leakage. If leakage exists, the gasket will be replaced and the sensor will be tightened appropriately, at no charge.
