Welcome to SafetyCheck, where you’ll find safety news, issues, and recalls of products you use every day. One feature I know you’ll like is our Alerts tool. Simply check the list of products or brand names you use and we’ll alert you when your product has a recall or issue.
When creating SafetyCheck.com, I couldn’t believe how many product recalls there were that I had never heard about. Only certain recalls seem to make the news, usually those that affect millions of units. In reality, there are more than 1,000 product recalls every year, but most of us don’t hear about them…and many recalls involve tens of thousands of units, or more. And while recalls are posted on government web sites, those sites aren’t the easiest to use.
But if you were offline for a few days, or traveling, you could easily miss a news report for a recall of a product that you own. (After all, most recall stories don’t spend more than one to two days in the news, at best.)
What if there was a product recall, where the product could potentially cause harm to you, your child, or a parent? Would you want to know as soon as possible and not rely on having to keep up with the news or hearing it word-of-mouth?
That’s why our SafetyCheck Alerts tool is helpful, easy to use, and convenient. And, by the way, it’s free.
The Alerts tool is a useful way of storing information about the vehicles you own or lease, your home appliances, and even medicines and pet food. With all the products or categories stored in SafetyCheck, you’ll be alerted when a product you own is experiencing a recall, has received a warning from a federal agency, or is included in a safety-related news item.
Another nice feature about the Alerts tool is that you can change the products which are relevant to you at any time. For example, if you sell or trade in one vehicle and acquire another, simply go to the Alerts page and in just a few seconds you can de-select one car brand and select another car brand.
One more thing…did you know that for most product recalls, the manufacturer, distributor or retailer will either repair or replace your product at no charge, or refund your purchase? Good companies stand behind their products. They want to preserve their reputation. They want you to return as a customer. And they want you to share positive experiences about them with everyone you know. That’s good business. And alerting you to take advantage of a recall is our business.
So, if you’re like most consumers who want a product to perform as it’s supposed to when you bought it — and frustrated when it doesn’t — then you’re probably someone who wants to know when there’s a potential issue, and if you’re entitled to a repair, replacement, or a refund.

I hope you’ll sign up for the Alerts and give them a try. And tell your friends. Who knows, tomorrow’s recall could affect you or someone you love.
Be safe.
